Being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, or any other condition that causes chronic pain can be distressing, to say the least. However, you’re not alone; about one in five Americans deal with chronic pain, and many of them figure out how to thrive despite the pain. If you find ways to manage your pain, you can lead a fulfilling life too. From changing what you eat to seeking holistic services such as 22 Lunar, here are some ideas for how you can live healthy and happy in the face of your diagnosis.

Nutrition and Exercise
Maintaining a healthy diet can reduce inflammation, and exercising regularly keeps your muscles active, both of which can help alleviate chronic pain.
  • Stick with foods that can specifically help you to manage your pain, such as vegetables, fruits, fish, chicken, beans, and nuts.
  • To keep costs down, see what kind of easy meals you can cook up with ingredients you already have (e.g., soup, sandwiches, brinner, etc.).
  • Speak with your doctor to determine a good exercise routine that will accommodate your diagnosis.
  • Find stretching exercises that you can do before and after your workouts, as well as other times in the day.
Relaxing
Stress exacerbates chronic pain, so it’s important to determine ways that you can reduce the stress in your life.
  • Maintain a healthy living environment by regularly decluttering, deep cleaning, and burning sage.
  • Incorporate meditation into your daily routine; there are many different types of meditation, so it really comes down to finding a style that works for you.
  • Try listening to soothing music, taking hot baths, reading fiction, or anything else that helps you to disconnect from your everyday obligations for a moment.
  • Develop a bedtime routine that helps you get the sleep you need at night.
Alternative Treatments
While medication is sometimes necessary, there are alternative treatments that can work as a supplement to or in place of medication.
  • Try massage therapy, such as acupressure, neuromuscular massage, and/or Swedish massage.
  • Consider acupuncture, which is known to balance energy in the body and foster relaxation.
  • Seek guidance from holistic services like 22 Lunar, which can help you manage your pain through Reiki, light therapy, music, sound, and other approaches.
  •
